About This Blog
Have you ever needed relationship advice and didn’t know where to turn? If so, then you, like most, are not alone. It can be hard to know who to trust to give you good advice about dating, relationships, marriage, sex, etc. It can feel uncomfortable to even address these topics with friends and family, and it’s often something we think we should “just know”. The problem is that love and relationships are too complex to “just know” everything that is necessary to navigate the minefield of love.
The Romance Rescuers Blog was established in 2018 to be a resource for those looking for expert advice about dating, relationships, marriage, intimacy, love, and even loss. As Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, we believe that it is our duty to help people better understand the intricacies of romantic life. Whether you are single and looking to get back into the dating game, or have been happily (hopefully) married for 50+ years, we believe that this blog will have something to offer you.
So we hope that you will check in with us from time to time and share the information that you find here with other couples in need. Please feel free to send us a message with questions and topics that you would like to see covered.

The Story of Us
As Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, our expertise in the field of romance and relationships has developed through extensive training and the thousands of hours of couple and marital therapy that we have provided over the years. What we think makes us unique in our ability to provide the relationship advice found on this blog is that we are also a married couple that uses these tips, insights, and strategies in our own relationship. We know that sometimes it’s hard to accept insights from professionals who don’t practice what they preach, so rest assured, the information you will find her is stuff that we use ourselves.
Kelsi and I first met while in graduate school where we were studying to become Marriage and Family Therapists. At such a busy time in our lives neither of us were looking for a romantic relationship, but as is often the case, love rarely happens when it’s convenient. After dating for several years we knew that “ill-timed” relationship had grown into one of those forever kinds of love. So we tied the knot! Today, we live and work together in clinical and private practice in Des Moines, Iowa.

Growing up as a child of divorce I developed a unique and interesting perspective on love and marriage that continues to inform my work with couples today. Though you could say that my education in the field of human psychology started then, it continued at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I received Bachelors degrees in Psychology and Sociology before going on to obtain my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northern Illinois University. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I have worked with couples from across the relationship spectrum, from those looking at taking the next step, to those on the brink of divorce, and everything in-between.
Aside from the work that I do as a therapist, I love watching and playing sports, performing on stage in local theater productions, getting outside to enjoy the outdoors, and spending time with friends, family, and my incredible wife.

I have always been fascinated by the way that our lives are defined by our relationships. Our bonds with others are defining components in our lives and they serve to satisfy some of our most basic needs. It was my passion for understanding these relationships that led me to Iowa State University where I received a bachelors degree in Child, Adult, and Family Services and a minor in psychology. From there I went on to obtain my master’s degree at Northern Illinois University in Marriage and Family Therapy. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, it is the variety that working with couples brings that truly drives my passion for helping people create happier and healthier connections. Every couple brings with them a “uniqueness” that should be celebrated and continually strengthened.
When I am not playing the role of therapist, I enjoy reading, fitness, soaking up the outdoors, baking, and vacationing with family, friends, and my handsome husband.
